Description

“Over 90 billion cardboard boxes are discarded every year.

A couple of years ago, my daughter came to me to help her with a school art project. Her brief was to design and build something with crafts and present it to her class. She originally wanted to design a doll house, but I encouraged her to think bigger. I wanted her to think outside of the metaphorical box and do something that will make an impact.

She came up with the concept of a giraffe, using cardboard from InterfaceFLOR carpet sample packaging we had seen on a recent visit to my design studio.

SDI is taking the concept of turning waste into opportunity a step further by thinking of ways we can turn materials destined for the landfill into something bigger. In collaboration with Teknion and InterfaceFLOR we will be exhibiting a two-storey giant giraffe created from recycled materials.

SDI will also be raising money for the World Wildlife Funs in a further effort to give back and help support the conservation of endangered species.”
