PEKOTA aspires to change the way we look at the objects that surround us. Their signature line – Industrial Elegance – is an elevated marriage of robust industrial aesthetics and the sophisticated, lyrical elegance from a bygone era. A Toronto based design firm specializing in the design and manufacture of furniture, lighting, and architectural elements, PEKOTA is driven by passion and innovation, and are proud that all of their work is made and crafted in Toronto. Their constantly evolving retail line is shown at their Junction based shop along with a selection of handpicked items from around the world.
Marco Pecota Creative Director of PEKOTA, has for many years been engaged across multiple disciplines – from film producing, to publishing to design, and firmly believes that surrounding ourselves with art and beauty, inspires us to engage and share in fuller, more creative and effective lives.
MARIAN WIHAK is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist-designer whose creative inquiry is driven by overarching notions of connectivity, duration, and evolutionary process. Her new installation, “Excavation (closer to where we began),” embraces the theme of connectedness across epochs of large-arc narratives and multiplicitous events, and is inspired by the lush, intimate, visceral, layered, fleeting and indelible histories found within Lisa Richter’s evocative new book of poetry, “Closer To Where We Began”.
Ms. Wihak’s response to Richter’s meandering investigation into personal memories and imaginings brings to mind both an excavation and a labyrinth, a labyrinth of revelations and unravellings. By charting evocative rather than literal narratives, the artist’s intent is to engage the participant/viewer in a world that is both haptic and abstract, tapping into intuitive knowledge at the same time as prompting memories of specific moments in time, inviting thoughtful reflection upon one’s own place in the world, and within the larger, encompassing, fluid sense of time.
Join us for our opening reception where Lisa Richter will read from her new book of poetry “Closer To Where We Began”, to which Marian Wihak’s installation “Excavation (…closer to where we began) responds. The author and the artist will be in attendance and will speak briefly about how their work intersects and the processes behind their work.
