How we listen changes everything, and how we respond to what we hear changes it again. In this immersive and hands-on sound exhibition, Intervene Design stages the belief that well designed interactions can be transformative.

‘I feel heard’ is a chance to practice listening and responding plus an opportunity to hear the responses of others who have come before. This exhibition will co-create meanings in a complex environment by transforming half of the Miami Ad School into a listening booth for stories of the others. ‘I feel heard’ is inspired by the works of Janet Cardiff, Krystof Wodzicko, and Storycorps, along with the designers’ backgrounds in process and experience design, live performance, and music production. Intervene Design is interdisciplinary at the core.

Intervene Design is made up of Stephanie Markowitz, Gerald Bartels, Jacob Zimmer, and Jerrold McGrath.

Stephanie Markowitz makes videos and performances. She recently finished Gabey and Mike, a musical documentary on Jewish summer camps with the music of the band Mermaid Café. Her performance practice with feminist art rock band VAG HALEN has taken her to venues and stages internationally including the Venice Biennale and the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival.

Gerald Bartels is a creativity researcher exploring organizational creativity and innovation processes from a communicative perspective. His research projects are based on modern, ethnographic approaches and include diverse, international organizational settings, such as aerospace and automotive engineering companies, comedy and art festivals, community engagement centres, creativity and innovation centres, and entrepreneurial undertakings.

Jacob Zimmer makes theatre, dramaturges dance, and facilitates groups of humans. He is currently making The Fun Palace Radio Variety Show, a podcast and live show that chooses variety out of the variety of choices and a giant puppet musical for the acclaimed album Are We Not Horses.

Jerrold McGrath makes remarkable encounters and unexpected connections. Before founding Intervene Design, Jerrold was a director at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and directed the creation of leadership and entrepreneurial programs for individuals, teams, and organizations.
