A talk by Julia Jamrozik + Coryn Kempster at Suite 22 Interiors

From small to big and the other way around, moving across the Atlantic has meant a shift in scales for this Canadian architect couple. Tracing their experiences working on “world class” commissions and independent projects, the presentation will outline their trajectory, research and design focus.

Julia Jamrozik is an Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo
SUNY School of Architecture. She has worked as an Architect for at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel and taught at the ETH in Zurich. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto where she studied both architecture and art history and holds an M.Arch from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Coryn Kempster is an artist and designer based in Buffalo, NY. He was an Architect at Herzog & de Meuron and a Project Director at Harry Gugger Studio in Basel, Switzerland. He studied art and architecture at the University of Toronto and earned his M.Arch as a Presidential Fellow at MIT.

Between them, Jamrozik and Kempster have won numerous competitions and have exhibited and published in Canada, the U.S., Germany, France, Italy and South Korea, including solo shows at Vtape and Convenience Gallery in Toronto. Since 2003, they have collaborated on a series of designs, installations and art projects which investigate everyday situations and re-present them to be experienced anew. With an interest in the public realm and in the way that individuals and groups occupy space, they have created objects, spaces and situations that interrupt the ordinary in a critically engaging and playful way.
