‘The Pebble & The Stone’—the second Mercury Bureau x Flùr design week exhibition—traces the mineral from source to material to process to form, creating a family of bronze objects for the display of dry flora.
From raw geological occurrence comes the mining of copper, eventually formulated as a specific bronze alloy. The bronze is then poured into moulds composed of hardened sand, a material that results from the weathering of geological formations across deep time. The sand-cast objects that result from this process bear the texture of their creation, and the mass of their material.
This family of bronze stem blocks mirrors the natural relationship of earth and flora by creating material support for the display of dry flowers and plants. Each member of this family of bronze objects, which occupy a range of forms and sizes, can be used on its own or in a grouping—each equally compelling both with and without an arrangement of plant material.
