Upper Case Lower Case

302 Collective partners with Mackenzie House Museum as part of an on-going explorations of interiority by investigating the elements of time and history through a contemporary lens by exploring an intervention in the 1845 print shop. Inspired by the rapid customization possibilities of the original printing press, the group will develop an interactive space that mixes soundscapes from the printing press at work with a collaborative sound installation. Soundscapes mix with the found objects in the workshop, along with a curated collection of contemporary objects and artifacts.

Our intent is to bring a greater awareness of this historical era of mass communication that saw an abundance of exchange of printed matter into the contemporary public realm in order to question how interiors have now become sites for the display and exchange of information and entertainment for the public.

The installation seeks to extend our understanding of the 19th-century inhabitants of the City of Toronto and how they used communication in public through print and sound.

Saturday, January 19 from noon to 5 pm join the students of the 302 Collective for the opening of this innovative installation. Find out their process and their insights.
