What TO DO This Week: April 30-May 6

Looking for something fun to do this week? There are always cool events and exhibitions going on in Toronto, but sometimes all that choice can be a little overwhelming. That’s why we put together a weekly list of the most interesting art and design events going on in the city. Here’s what we’re checking out this week.

 

‘Artistry in Silk’ Exhibition Tour

Join the Textile Museum of Canada’s curator Natalia Nekrassova for a tour and exploration of the museums current exhibition ‘Artistry in Silk’. Nekrassova will discuss the work of Itchiku Kubota and 20th century Japanese textile traditions.

GradEx 103

OCAD University’s annual graduate exhibition will take place this week. Showcasing the work of over 900 young artists and designers, the exhibit will give visitors a glimpse at what to expect from design in the future.

Electric Dreams

This free talk at the Design Exchange will explore art as a digital experience. Panellists include Jonah Brotman, founder and CEO of House of VR, Merray Gerges, assistant editor at Canadian Art, Shiralee Hudson Hill, lead interpretive planner at the AGO and Will Huffman, the marketing manager of Dorset Arts.

Design Clinic

To kickoff their bimonthly series of events, The Design Clinic will be hosting a talk discussing the ways in which businesses can use design to help them succeed. Jessica Helps and Rhodi Iliadou will explore how design and collaborations with designers can elevate any business.

CONTACT Photography Festival 2018

The Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is back this year, showcasing the work of hundreds of photographers all over the city. The month-long festival includes over 200 events and exhibitions and hopes to increase engagement with the arts both on a local and global scale.
