DesignTO enters a new chapter of its 15-year journey. And, with that, comes change.
As of April 1, 2025, Jeremy Vandermeij stepped away from the position of Executive Director. As one of DesignTO’s co-founders, Jeremy has been instrumental in building and growing the non-profit organization into what it is today. From the beginning, he helped shape a vision rooted in the belief that design can contribute to a more sustainable, just, and joyful world.
During this transition period, we are pleased to announce that co-founder and Artistic Director Deborah Wang will step into the role of Interim Executive Director, and Jeremy into the temporary role of Head of Development.
“It has been one of the great joys of my life to help build this organization and its deeply meaningful work. I believe with all my heart in DesignTO’s mission. Stepping away is emotional, but I’m filled with hope and excitement to see how a new leader will take this vision even further. I’m also excited to continue supporting the mission in my part-time role as Head of Development, continuing to build partnerships that help DesignTO thrive,” says Jeremy.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to express our deep gratitude to Jeremy for his years of service and leadership.
With over 25 years of experience in art and design and a deep commitment to DesignTO, we are confident in Deborah’s ability to lead the organization through this transformative moment. We’re fortunate to have her continue—alongside Head of Programming Robyn Wilcox, Head of Marketing Michael Madjus, the exceptional team, and Board of Directors— to advance DesignTO as a vital platform for creativity and community. Together, they will carry on the annual DesignTO Festival, as well as year-round activities through talks, tours, exhibitions, members’ events, and youth programming.
We’re excited about the future of DesignTO and grateful to our incredible community for helping us become Canada’s largest celebration of design.
– Zviko Mhakayakora, Chair, DesignTO Board of Directors
