Kathryn has maintained a studio practice since 1989, working at the intersection of visual art, design and material culture. In 2000, she founded FELT as a studio and a label to explore modern manufactured felt through exhibitions and interiors, collaborating with architects and designers in Canada and United States. Her work walks a line between the functional and experimental with some projects exploring form and texture, while others question the nature of our built environment.
Her work has been exhibited at galleries including the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, Royal Ontario Museum, The Design Exchange, The Gardiner Museum and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in NYC. She has worked with numerous designers including Levitt-Goodman Partners, Lemay Michaud Architecture, superkül, Johnson Chou Architects and Dubbeldam Architecture + Design in Canada, as well as So-Il, Pelli Clarke Pelli, Yazdani Studio of Cannon Design, Ten Arquitectos and Diller Scofidio + Renfro in the US.
She completed an MFA at Concordia University in Montreal in 1993, and is currently teaching a studio course about felt at Ryerson University School of Interior Design.
