Now in their 21st year, Toronto’s Interior Design Show returned to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this January. The show, which is the largest design exhibition in North America, drew more than 50,000 guests from around the world for 4 full days of new products, interesting installations, thoughtful lectures and more!
The show kicked off with their Opening Night party featuring performances from DJ Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw as well as some famous attendees including architect Marina Tabassum, fashion designer Zac Posen, industrial designer Karim Rashid among others. Over the weekend guests had the opportunity to hear from a variety of world-renowned speakers from the global design community and beyond. Attendees also had the chance to see some of the newest products and designs from around the world, ranging from accessories to ceramics to home decor.
This year the show’s theme was the Power of Design and their aim was to explore “how design affects every aspect of the human experience, not just interior design, architecture and product design … we wanted to make sure that the show touched all verticals,” says IDS Canadian National Director Karen Kang, who also emphasized that Canadian design is definitely having a moment right now. Though there are some commonalities across Canadian design she also explained that “the definition of an established Canadian identity is one that encourages a plurality of views – that is constantly evolving.”
