‘From the Ground’ returns as both an exhibition and the name of the creative partnership between Christina da Graça and Songshu Liu. In this exhibition, the two artists have blended their practices to create four collaborative sculptures made solely from clay and wood. Working intuitively, Christina and Songshu have shaped each piece to allow the materials to speak for themselves, revealing the natural textures, forms, and quiet dialogue between ceramic and timber.
Building on the philosophy established in their first exhibition, From the Ground continues to explore growth, care, and collaboration. The artists’ practices rooted in clay and wood intertwine to express balance, mutual understanding, and the organic relationship between material and maker.
Presented within window vitrines, the four sculptures invite viewers to observe the dialogue between clay and wood through the glass. contrasting yet harmonious, grounded yet delicate. This intimate display format creates a moment of pause for passersby, allowing reflection on how craft can be both humble and profound.
Through these works, Christina and Songshu celebrate the elemental origins of their materials and the evolving bond between their practices. From the Ground offers a perspective on making, that reminds us that beauty emerges not from perfection, but from intuition.
