‘Looms of Heritage’ is a woven tapestry created through workshops led by artist Ebru Winegard and her skilled team. This community-driven project brought together an inspirational group of Turkish newcomers, particularly those impacted by the February 2023 earthquake in Türkiye, fostering a deeper connection to their cultural roots.

In 2024, Ebru launched the ‘Looms of Heritage’ workshop series, where participants crafted individual woven pieces. These pieces were sewn together by Ebru and her team to create a kilim tapestry, designed for a window display. The tapestry highlights the rich heritage of Turkish weaving and serves as a symbol of the strength, resilience, and unity of the community. Every colour, texture, and layer connects to a larger story of shared experience. Each piece in the tapestry carries a unique narrative, woven with care, creativity, and collaboration.

For the first time, the ‘Looms of Heritage’ tapestry will be viewable from inside and outside of Collective Arts Toronto Taproom & Café, located at 777 Dundas Street West. Visitors are invited to experience the artwork up close, reflecting on how art enables exploration, self-expression, and cultural awareness.

Ebru Winegard is a multidisciplinary Turkish-Canadian artist with a diverse educational and professional background. She has participated in over 30 national and international exhibitions and has received numerous accolades, including the Ontario Culture Days 2024 Spotlight People’s Choice Award. Ebru’s art focuses on community, culture, and heritage, with projects like ‘Looms of Heritage’ demonstrating her commitment to cultural exchange.
