Montreal textile designer Jenny San Martin transforms three expansive waterfront windows into an exploration of how we live with patterns. This installation features two distinct bodies of work that invite you to discover your own aesthetic preferences.
What You’ll See:
The ‘min/max’ lamp collection presents a design challenge: which do you prefer—restraint or complexity? Five handcrafted lamp styles appear in pairs, each shown in both meditative off-white textured linen and bold patterns from San Martin’s Ampli fabric collection. As you compare the illuminated lamps side by side, you’ll find yourself asking which version you’d choose for your own home. It’s like window shopping for your aesthetic identity.
Betwixt tells a different story. Seven large-scale silk compositions (132 cm x 132 cm) emerged when San Martin was testing wallpaper designs. Cutting egg shapes from hundreds of printed samples, she discovered they looked like fancy guests at a party—revealing unexpected narratives about social gatherings and the complex emotions of observing social dynamics.
Why Visit:
See how experimental pattern-making migrates between commercial product design and fine art. Experience the craftsmanship of traditional Montreal shade-making and digital silk printing. Compare your aesthetic preferences in real-time with illuminated examples.
