Art Meets the Soul of Design…

Ever wonder what goes into the creation of a sculpture? Now you can find out. See Toronto-based sculptor, Theo Willemse to understand the genesis and birth of an exciting collection of art and practical design when he opens his studio door to visitors.

Featured during this event is PATHEOS Furniture Collection, the leading edge in sculptural furniture by Theo Willemse.

Enter a world of inspired shape and form hidden in the downtown King West corridor. During DesignTO the studio/gallery will be open to the public to introduce a new line of sculptural furniture. An open reception and artist talk to follow.

PATHEOS Furniture is a modern, sophisticated, sculptural furniture series developed by multidisciplinary artist, Theo Willemse, in collaboration with his partner, Patricia Thornton. Furniture and sculpture are merged to create minimalist compositions of fluid, elegant forms.  These statement pieces challenge aesthetics and perception. Each piece aspires to attain the perfect balance between form and function, art and design.

Born in Amsterdam, Theo Willemse studied fine arts in Toronto, majoring in sculpture under Wyndhem Lawrence.  As a mature artist, Theo has produced a body of work in sculpture, furniture, paintings, jewelry and design projects using wood, bronze, aluminum, Matrix, clay, stone and concrete to express his narration of form.  He continues to deepen expression and meaning in his work to elicit the interplay between viewer and object.

Theo describes the process of creating sculpture,

“There’s a period of contemplation, before material and tools make contact with each  other. This gestation allows the concepts to emerge. Then the act of doing is the spiritual act of creation.”

Take this opportunity to see and experience a unique environment where art meets the soul of design.

Thank you to Brad J. Lamb for their support of the opening reception for ‘PATHEOS Sculpture Furniture – Theo Willemse Studio’.
