‘The Quiet Between: Gestures of Absence’ presents a series of hand-blown glass vessels exploring softness, imbalance, and the quiet tension between stillness and motion. Each piece stands as a sculptural form, curved and leaning, shaped by gravity and intuition. The works of art pull meaning from the word lilt, which is the rise and fall of movement, of voice, of something alive in stillness. These vessels are not made for function, but for feeling. Their postures suggest a pause or a reaching, like petals mid-bloom or a gesture held just long enough to become form. A subtle mourning is embedded in how each piece holds space, not as a container, but as a presence shaped by absence. Grief moves through these works not with solemnity but with vitality, held in gesture, imbalance, and the space between.

The color palette is bold and deliberate, featuring rich violets, bright marigold golds, deep blues, vivid pinks, and bright greens. These hues convey emotions such as memory, desire, and tenderness, alongside the complex feelings that accompany grief. Rather than softening the shapes, the colors amplify their presence and add intensity to the forms. Each shade brings energy to the work, reflecting the emotional depth within the pieces. These are colors that refuse to quiet down, just as mourning often refuses to stay still. Grouped together, the works form a spatial rhythm, with each piece amplifying the presence of the next. The result is a sculptural installation that invites slow looking and bodily engagement, where the viewer becomes part of the balance between weight and lift, saturation and shadow.
