Tania Love’s exhibition ‘the space between’ presents a collection of subtle paintings and graphite drawings that emerged from observing the momentary interplay of light and shadow.
The sun and moon, primary entities of deep time are likewise cyclical phenomena. Our perception and experience of these same orbs that rise, set, eclipse, cast shadows and beams of light is changing and relative to our position on the earth in time. Love’s works explore the liminal, impermanent, fleeting, abstracted shifts of light and the quiet awareness that emerges from this space.
The works are realized with a natural casein based paint on linen as well as with botanically based pigments and graphite on paper.
Tania Love is a Toronto-based visual artist whose work evolves from a relationship with the natural and cultural habitat. Her process centred use of diverse natural materials places emphasis on tactility and invites slower rhythms. She is the recipient of numerous grants and residencies and has exhibited both within Canada and internationally. In 2023, Love was recognized with a ‘Best In Festival: Exhibition’ DesignTO Award for the collaborative project ‘mémoire’.
The Lyceum Gallery is a contemporary Canadian art gallery located in a light-filled space on Queen Street West, across from Trinity Bellwoods Park.
