The Volunteer Spotlights series shares the amazing DesignTO Festival volunteers that bring skill, time, and enthusiasm to the annual celebration of design.

What was your volunteer role?

Photographer

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a graphic design student and artist exploring the connections between art, nature, and social change. My art includes documentary film photography, meditative line drawings, and graphic illustrations. Inspired by my Southwest Asian identity and the transformative power of nature, I focus on themes of human reintegration into the natural world and outdoor accessibility. I am curious about the modern individual’s relationship with nature and their spiritual connection to the environment, drawing inspiration from mountains, trees, and music. In my free time, I love to run and dance with friends.

Why did you volunteer with DesignTO?

I volunteered with DesignTO as a photographer because it’s one of my favourite ways to interact with art, artists, and actively contribute to community-building.

What was your favourite part about volunteering for the Festival?

My favourite part about volunteering with DesignTO was that I got to meet and talk to artists from all walks of life.

Why do you think it’s important for people to volunteer DesignTO?

Volunteering with DesignTO is important because it allows individuals to engage with the art community, gain hands-on experience, support artistic expression, and contribute to the cultural growth of the organization.
