Contra Studio by Christine Rohrbacher, creates handmade leather goods and furniture that expand the users’ feeling of belonging and identity through mindful sensory cues. Each product invites you to touch, feel, and connect back to yourself – contradicting the fast paced world around us.
Many of us spend more time at home now. We may live in smaller spaces and travel or move more often. Many new buildings and housing options lack character, history and personality while also often erasing and evicting the existing culture and community. What does this mean for our sense of home, security, and self?
The ‘Coming Home’ collection is comprised of flat-pack leather and wood furniture, and personal leather goods. Each piece invites you to take a moment and enjoy the details of the hand sewn leather, the wood joinery, and the opportunity to take them with you wherever you go. These tokens over time will evoke a place of your own that is grounded in beauty and carry a patina of memory.
This exhibition invites you to touch, sit, and connect.
