‘Speaking the dialect of trees’ tells a story of human affiliation with the living landscape. The textile alludes to a chorus of rhythms: the ripple of water, the gesture of grass, the trace of a thread, a breathing body. By Kathleen Morris
Mountain Fold sees fragile glass carefully folded and shaped like a vernacular file folder, and then hung in suspended animation in a floor-to-ceiling installation. By Sylvia Lee, Executive and Creative Director of Jeff Goodman Studio
The Space Between consists of over 6,000 meters of interwoven coloured string, transforming the multi-level lobby at 55 St. Clair West with an infrastructure of horizontal and vertical planes, cutting and shaping the existing space. The combined length of the string used to build the installation is equal to the approximate distance required to pull a single, continuous line from the building lobby, to Toronto landmarks such as the Toronto Waterfront, the Don Valley, the Junction and Yorkdale Mall. Hacking Black Futures presents design speculations on Black-centric societies that are devoid of oppression, discrimination, and systemic racism. What do these societies look like? How do they function? How can these futures be achieved? The exhibition provides opportunities to explore these questions in an immersive and collaborative environment.
