As Canada’s largest cultural celebration of design, it is our duty to keep our ears to the ground searching for the latest news making waves, whether big or small, in the art and design community. Two New City Parks for Toronto Waterfront

The City of Toronto is about to add more green space to spruce up two empty waterfront lots. “Earlier this year, Waterfront Toronto launched an international design competition to redesign two empty lots along the waterfront, and the short-listed design teams were announced back in May.” The 10 proposals are now available to be viewed online at this website link, where you can also take a short survey to provide your thoughts on the proposals for both York Street and Rees Street Park proposals. Centered: New human-centered design video series on YouTube

Centered is a brand new video series on YouTube that features a project between the Google team and the International Rescue Committee as they actively “…redesign an app that helps Syrian refugees move from surviving to thriving—a particularly apt subject for World Refugee Day. The series will criss-cross the globe as Yasmine talks to designers, researchers, and engineers, while exploring the impact and importance of a human-centered design process.”

Call for Entries: A’ Design Awards & Competition 2018-2019

The A’ Design Awards & Competition “is an international award whose aim is to provide designers, architects, and innovators from all design fields with a platform to showcase their work and products to a global audience.” With over 100 categories, this competition “will be judged by A’ Design Award’s jury of hundreds of experts from around the globe including scholars, professionals and media members.” For more information on how to apply, click this link.
