Time affects all. Nature, materials, relationships, and even our own ideas succumb to its relentless pursuit.
‘About Time’ is a collaborative exhibition featuring the creative work of six 2021 Sheridan College Craft and Design alumni.
The participant designers and craftspeople graduated from Sheridan Craft and Design at the height of the global pandemic and lost the opportunity to exhibit their final thesis work. ‘About Time’ displays a “then and now” narrative between the ideas explored in school and their development over time. How do our ideas hold up when time has passed, and the context has changed?
The show exhibits a unique collection of furniture, lighting, sculptural objects, and interactive design. Each body of work represents the individual designer’s aesthetics and philosophies of craft. Themes include interactive panels inspired by graphic music scores, the greater concept of luxury and what it means in objects, how to achieve a sense of stillness through capturing the mundane moments in everyday life, and using materiality, form, and scale to convey the studio process through physical objects.
