DesignTO Talks: Anony & Castor
Jan 20 2020
DesignTO projectevent: talk in-person

Join DesignTO and design expert Catherine Osborne for a conversation with Christian Lo of lighting studio Anony and Brian Richer of multidisciplinary studio Castor, on the occasion of their installations at EQ3’s King East showroom.

A collaboration with EQ3, Anony’s lighting installation, the Row Collection, is simple, clean, and modern. It includes table, floor, and pendant lighting that juxtapose black metal bases with opal glass lamp heads that emit a soft glow. Castor Design finds innovative ways to use familiar materials through experimentation with process and technique. Their installation will highlight their new collection with EQ3: Mirror of Constant Width. Based on the curves of constant width, a geometric concept, the mirrors feature stone or marble mounting knobs that provide users the choice of multiple ways to hang the piece in their home.

Anony is a Toronto-based lighting and product design studio founded by Christian Lo and David Ryan. Local manufacturing capabilities and the latest technology are elemental to Anony’s design process. Concerned with the entire life cycle, they design products that last. Thoughtful and honest material choices result in something that exudes quality and inspires care.

Led by Brian Richer and Kei Ng, Toronto-based Castor Design is committed to innovation in design. Castor Design’s products involve thoughtful experimenting with process and techniques, finding new ways to use familiar materials. In addition to their product line and installations, Castor also works on interiors projects, custom lighting and furniture design, and public art commissions. Castor Design has won awards from the Architizer A+ Awards, A’ Design, Azure Magazine’s AZ Awards, Interior Design Magazine, and from numerous design shows.

Catherine Osborne is an award-winning editor, writer and communication strategist, with expertise in architecture, design, and the visual arts. Based in Toronto, she is the former Editor of Azure, one of North America’s leading publications of international architecture and design. She has written extensively and interviewed some of the world’s most influential creative minds, including Sir David Adjaye, Jay Osgerby of Barber&Osgerby, Oki Sato of Nendo, and designer Faye Toogoode of London.
