hollis+morris 501 Alliance Avenue, Suite 4, Toronto

‘DesignTO Tours: hollis+morris’ provides two opportunities to take a deep dive into the 14,000 square foot Toronto production studio of hollis+morris, where furniture and lighting are designed, prototyped, manufactured and showcased on-site.

As a combo shop, assembly hall, office and showroom overlooking a park, the studio tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at a space for local manufacturing that was designed by architect Jonathan Mandeville of Passage Studio (Halifax) in collaboration with hollis+morris founder Mischa Couvrette. Located in a former Cooper Canada sporting goods factory, both the building and the products made within open up larger conversations about sustainability, Canadian manufacturing and growth.

On view at these tours will be two new exciting installations: “Colour Drenched” and “Stala: Dialogue in Light.” “Colour Drenched” features wood and metal speaking the same colour, creating monochromatic harmony that shapes mood and space, and inviting designers to shape mood and space through one colour. “Stala” is inspired by the slow formations of stalactites and stalagmites, combining wood with hand-blown glass to embody nature’s balance of descent and ascent, weight and light, darkness and glow.

Architects, interior designers, journalists, design students, and members of the design industry are invited to join hollis+morris founder Mischa Couvrette and DesignTO Artistic Director Deborah Wang for two opportunities to tour the studio, complemented by evening or daytime refreshments.
