This piece by Diana Watters is a study of a family’s perception of a cataclysmic event. Each person looks at an occurrence through the lens of their own life experience, shape shifting and tinting the way they view that memory. By utilizing varying materiality, Diana strives to represent the enmeshment and intersection of memory and reality. The core reality is represented by the macrame form. The interwoven pieces, each person’s perception of that event. Sometimes whole, sometimes broken and stitched back together, and sometimes fractured beyond repair. Each individual narrative runs parallel to each other, never intersecting or touching another persons line. The most dynamic areas become the point of intersection, where the core reality and perceived memory collide. At this apex, the personal core truth resides.
