Join us for a workshop to learn how to make a ‘Fried Egg Magnet 3D Embroidery Kit ‘with Laura Carwardine!
Laura recently designed an embroidery kit that features a three-dimensional egg-shaped canvas. In this workshop, everyone will receive one kit, and Laura will guide you through the process of completing the kit, from learning where to begin and how to do the stitches to how to do the finishing details.
The fried egg kit uses four stitches: continental stitch, cross stitch, whip stitch, and back stitch. The kit includes a full-colour instruction book with a counted pattern, diagrams and pictures to help explain the stitches, how to begin and end threads, and how to attach the magnet.
Laura has done embroidery kits since she was a kid and has always wanted to create her own. As an industrial designer and textile artist, the custom 3D embroidery design process is a unique combination of her skillsets. Laura has always enjoyed the tactile process of using colour and texture to bring a textile project to life, and the goal with these kits is to share the joy of this process with others. Embroidery kits can also be a nice analog break from the digital world, and you get a piece of artwork when you’re done!
This is a fun project for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. As it contains a tapestry needle and a strong magnet and the process requires scissors, it is not intended for young children, and it should only be completed with adult supervision.
Enjoy a comfortable social afternoon in the new modern wing of The Drake Hotel as you are stitching and ask any questions as needed. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
