window installation in-person

For this site-specific window installation at Comrags flagship boutique, Unitfive Design presents a variety of freestanding, stackable metal units comprised of cold rolled square bar. Using the notion of building blocks as a conceptual jumping off point, the work exists as a formal exploration of proportion, scale, and texture. Standing at different heights, each sculptural “unit” functions as a singular element within a larger configuration. The positioning of the works is flexible and temporal in nature, making initial arrangements subject to change over the course of the exhibition. Unitfive Design’s decades-old exploration of metalwork has allowed them to combine traditional techniques with modern manufacturing technologies. Since the company’s inception, they have explored the transformative properties of metal in all of its forms and finishes. The studio uniquely balances architectural experience with a comprehensive understanding of production, ultimately creating works that exist at the blurry intersection of art and design and critically call into question the limits of rigid categorization.

Comrags is operating at reduced capacity due to current COVID-19 restrictions. Visitors are encouraged to view the window installation from outside.
