An exciting collection of paintings by Kira K. on skateboard decks, ‘Run From The Dumpster Fire’ is a colourful, graphic depiction of healing from an old life. The linear figures of the skate decks transform the walls of the laundromat.
Dirty Laundry is a smaller gallery space filled with sleek washing and drying machinery and a vending machine. However, these paintings are created on wooden surfaces, and the curvatures at the ends of the boards contradict the extreme ninety-degree angles of the machines.
This installation will offset the clean metallic surfaces not only because of the wood but also due to the organic brush strokes of the acrylic paint and the resin encapsulating the images.
The use of explosive colour within the paintings opposes the dullness of the grey steel and the black gaskets in the machines. Yet ironically, the theme of “running away” or “washing away” the old life is like the suds and water washing away the dirt from the clothing swirling around.
