‘Sculpture Meets Function’ is a small series exploring sculptural forms as ceramic side tables. Drawing from inspiration and concepts from her earlier work, ceramicist Filipa Pimentel tests the boundaries of clay by creating large sculptural ceramic pieces. She draws her inspiration from forms and textures found in nature, particularly by the ocean. Creating functional pieces with sculptural elements has been an ongoing theme in Filipa’s work. This series is taking these concepts one step further in scale and as furniture. A must-see for anyone who likes to incorporate a statement piece in their living space.

These tables will be on display in Saudade Toronto’s shop window for the duration of the DesignTO Festival. A perfect pairing of artist and shop, as patrons can not only admire the sculptural pieces in the window, but also walk into the shop and be surrounded by beautifully modern handcrafted pieces created by Portuguese artisans.
