Toronto-based artist Rachel Sardella presents ‘Soft Echoes’, an exhibition of layered wooden sculptures and textural paintings exploring memory’s fragmented and fluid nature. Through her work, viewers are invited to reflect on how time, perspective, and experience shape our perception of the natural world.
Each hand-carved sculpture is composed of layered wooden forms, built through a slow and deliberate process that mirrors the rhythms of growth and erosion found in nature. Within these layers, the truth of the landscape lives somewhere in between – between surfaces, between memory and observation, and between the perspectives of artist and viewer.
Her paintings extend this contemplation into softer, more atmospheric terrain. Their blurred edges and muted tonalities evoke the haze of recollection, where clarity and ambiguity coexist. Both bodies of work emerge from the same impulse: to capture how fleeting moments leave lasting impressions, transforming into layered recollections over time.
Experience ‘Soft Echoes’ to fully engage with the textures, depth, and tactile presence of the work. This exhibition encourages quiet reflection and invites viewers to linger within the delicate interplay between what is seen, felt, and remembered. This exhibit will be shown at Youngplace Hallway Galleries, from January 23rd – February 7th.
