‘Tangled Paths’ encapsulates the chaotic beauty of urban life in a bustling metropolis like Toronto, where millions of individual journeys collide, overlap, and intertwine, forming a vibrant and dynamic web of human experiences. This installation is a metaphor for the countless interactions and connections that shape the city – moments of collaboration, creation, learning, and growth. It evokes the intangible paths people create as they navigate daily life, forging relationships, overcoming challenges, and pursuing their aspirations. These intersecting paths form the pulse of the metropolis, constantly shifting and expanding.
Constructed from 90% recycled materials, the installation speaks to the sustainability of urban evolution. Colour structures twist and tangle to represent the complexity of these interconnected lives, while the mirrored floor creates an illusion of endless pathways, amplifying the sensation of infinite possibilities. Underlighting casts reflections and shadows that bounce across the space, creating a dynamic interplay between light and dark, much like the contrasts of city life itself. Set in Toronto’s Yonge + St. Clair district, this installation is a powerful reflection of the ceaseless energy, movement, and interactions that drive the city forward.
