Get makin’ in the Kimpton Saint George Hotel’s Northern Suite, high above Bloor Street West, among original works by local artists and the most inspiring interior. Choose from three different workshops hosted by beloved female makers who are all featured in the book ‘Toronto Makes’ by Randi Bergman.

Relax in contemporary, beautiful surroundings while you learn to make your very own crafted object, guided through each step. Enjoy sweets and bites from local makers, including an elevated cocktail by Spirit of York + Sloane Tea. Take home your own copy of ‘Toronto Makes’, signed by the author.

Contrabotanic [Workshop 1] — 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of needle felting and how to apply those techniques to create your own felt cactus. Great for beginners, participants will take home the proper tools and knowledge on how to transform wool into three-dimensional sculptures. Led by the creative behind Contrabotanic, Amanda Perumal will share her tips gained from her background in textiles and years of practice. Materials included: felting needles, foam block, wool roving (assorted colours), clay pot.

Fitzy [Workshop 2] — 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Learn the basics of hand sewing leather, the different types of leather, the most common leather working techniques, and the names of a few of Fitzy’s favourite local suppliers. Make your own hand stitched leather notebook cover from one of three leather colours: nude, caramel or black. This notebook cover can also double as a passport cover. Custom monogram included. Once you’ve learned the basics of hand sewing you’ll be able to make your simple bags, wallets, and more! Notebooks are included with this workshop.

Michelle Ross [Workshop 3]  — 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Michelle Ross will share how her design practice started by using vintage and antique pieces. Her origin practice has influenced how she still works today: starting with pre-made components that bring their own character into a piece. In this workshop, you can learn basic techniques to choose from provide materials to put together whatever inspires you from a pendant necklace piece or a keychain. All materials included.

All materials included. No experience is necessary. Space is very limited.

These workshops are part of Toronto Makes at Kimpton Saint George. Enjoy the free reception and maker talk in the Peregrine Room, hosted by Randi Bergman from 7pm to 8pm.
