‘Unveiled: The Graduation’ is a group exhibition featuring 6 young Muslim artists. It was initially featured as an exhibition to commemorate the completion of the four part workshop series called ‘Unveiled: Creative Practice & Self Expression’. The workshops provided young Muslim women a safe space to explore creative expression and personal identity.
This exhibition features the works of Iman Yousuf, Rayaan Mohamed, Amina Hemed, Nadia Khalifa, Nawal Ahmed, and Rahima Hussein. Unveiled is a personal project facilitated by Wishah Qaisar, and a part of the Community Impact program organized by Shoot For Peace.
The aim of ‘Unveiled’ is to expand the narrative of the Muslim community in Toronto, spark conversation surrounding womanhood, modesty, and beauty by looking past the “veil” and delve into the soul. Unveiled serves as a platform for creative self expression for young Muslim women. Over the course of a month, participants will be guided and assisted to execute their projects surrounding the identity of a young Muslim woman in Toronto through a series of workshops.
The opening reception of the event on the first day will be followed by a series of panelists consisting of women of color speaking about how their cultures and identities inspire their work.
