Are you passionate about design and interested in contributing to a creative community?

DesignTO is seeking an Assistant Marketing Coordinator to support the Festival’s marketing and communications efforts.

About DesignTO:

DesignTO is a charitable arts organization that believes design can create a sustainable, just, and joyful world. DesignTO organizes the annual DesignTO Festival, Canada’s largest celebration of design, forming Toronto’s design week every January.

About the role:

As an Assistant Marketing Coordinator, you will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Marketing + Communications team to support the promotion of the DesignTO Festival and year-round initiatives. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in arts marketing, communications, and content production while contributing to one of Canada’s leading cultural festivals.

In the lead-up to the Festival, you will assist with marketing campaigns, website updates, content scheduling, external listings, and communications support. During the Festival, you will help support promotional initiatives and audience engagement efforts across multiple platforms.

This volunteer role is mostly remote, but may include attending Festival events and assisting with on-site marketing and audience engagement activities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Head of Marketing with marketing campaigns and promotional initiatives
  • Supporting the scheduling and coordination of marketing and communications content
  • Researching and posting external listings for Festival programming, calls, and events
  • Assisting with website and blog updates through the Festival CMS
  • Supporting newsletter and email marketing initiatives
  • Assisting with copywriting, proofreading, and communications materials
  • Brainstorming marketing and content ideas with the Marketing + Communications team
  • Assisting with analytics reporting and audience engagement tracking
  • Supporting visual asset coordination including photography and graphic materials
  • Working on ad-hoc projects as needed
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Is enthusiastic about design, arts, culture, and communications
  • Is organized and detail-oriented, with strong communication skills
  • Is comfortable using Google Drive, Docs, and Spreadsheets
  • Has familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing tools
  • Has experience or interest in content writing, marketing, or communications
  • Is comfortable working collaboratively and independently
  • Has access to a computer and reliable internet connection
  • Is able to travel within Toronto if needed
  • Can commit approximately 3 to 5 hours per week, with additional time leading up to the Festival
  • Is available in Toronto during the DesignTO Festival (January 22–31, 2027)

This role is ideal for someone looking to build experience in arts and culture marketing, expand their professional network, contribute creative ideas to a collaborative team, and help shape the public presence of one of Canada’s leading design festivals.

Candidates who have previously volunteered at DesignTO are encouraged to apply. DesignTO is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those from equity-deserving communities.
