What TO DO This Week: Dec 11–17

Looking for something fun to do this week? There are always cool events and exhibitions going on in Toronto, but sometimes all that choice can be a little overwhelming. That’s why we put together a weekly list of the most interesting art and design events going on in the city. Here’s what we’re checking out this week.

A Free ROM Visit
In celebration of the re-opening of their Weston entrance on Queen’s Park the Royal Ontario Museum is offering free admission this Tuesday. The doors will be officially re-opened following a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon.

Bound
Bound is a brand new production that re-imagines the work of beloved composer Handel in light of the current refugee crisis. The production was developed by Artistic Director Joel Ivany, Music Director Topher Mokrzewski and composer Kevin Lau.

LandMarks: Art Places Perspectives
As part of a larger project that engages contemporary artists with creative ways to explore and deepen connections to the land, drawing inspiration from Canada’s National Parks and Historic Sites, LandMarks comes to the Gladstone for an intimate exhibit featuring work from Michael Belmore, Jin-Me Yoon, Leah Decter and more.

Opening reception on December 14, 2017 | 7pm-10pm. Show runs December 12-28

Canaletto and the Art of Venice
For their Exhibition on Screen season opener Hot Docs presents Canaletto and the Art of Venice. The film explores the work and history of Italian painter Giovanni Antonio Canal, who painted over 200 pieces depicting Venice and Venetian society.

The Trinity Bellwoods Flea
This weekend the Trinity Bellwoods Flea takes over the Great Hall for their Holiday Market. With vendors offering everything from dumplings to jewelry and cosmetics it’s the perfect place to pick up any last minute gifts you need for the holiday season.
